Failing to submit to a jam
This should have been a submission for the EJam by IGDA but well, went to school and forgot to submit, I cry inside. Looking on the bright side though, this is my first published game that isn't a submission to a game jam.
I have spent 2 days working on this game, the theme was celebrations which felt a bit hard for me. Celebration is something positive, so fighting felt out of place, which removed a lot of possible genres. In the end I settled for something more story based, something I haven't really done before.
When I was thinking of celebration I thought of festivals and then I though of lantern festivals. I remember vaguely this story I heard once that the lanterns were supposed to bring lost souls to heaven, which is a really happy story I feel and fit the theme perfectly. So I started making the game.
Lanterns come with fire, so my main mechanic is jumping between fire, everything else followed suit quite smoothly. I would like to thank the mentor that was assigned to me for giving me the idea for stars in the background and a sun as the ending. (Much better than my original idea of having a temple in the sky, fit the theme of fire very well as well)
So I finished everything about 12 hours before the jam and went to sleep, planning to make all the marketing stuff tomorrow morning right before my school (and exam :D). And surprise surprise, I wake up late, rush to school and completely forget about my submission.
Well sorry for the rant instead of a Devlog but yeah. It was still pretty fun and I am quite proud of the game. I do hope anyone reading this will play it, won't take more than 10 minutes to finish. :D
